Review of Touch of Evil (1958) by Drew M — 21 Jul 2008

One reviewer said that it's more accessible than Citizen Kane, I could not disagree more. This movie should be, in no way, compared to Citizen Kane. The story is pretty basic, and is quite boring. I understand that people love this film, and herald it, for its technical achievements, as there are many here.

But, unless you are a studious cinematographer, you won't find much here. And, if you are an Orson Welles fan, you'll barely be able to even recognize Welles here. This is one instance where a great performance by an actor, for me, is lost.

I love Welles' performance and it's a shame that he didn't play more characters that explored more of his persona.
