Review of Touch of Evil (1958) by Matt C — 24 Nov 2014
This is a great film, no doubt. The performances by Welles and Leigh in particular are fantastic. I have to say on repeat viewings though that I do run into issues. The obvious and most glaring is Heston as a Mexican.
A 'blacked' up Mexican as well, whichever way you look at it, this is uncomfortable to the modern audience. The others are more to do with the script feeling a little OTT at times and the plot a little simplistic.
This is all fairly minor criticism and if you haven't seen the film then you really should, but it's not as great as I'd always remembered. I did like the little cameo by Joseph Cotten though!
