Review of Torn Curtain (1966) by Shiela E — 20 Jul 2011
Not the best of Hitch's films, but worth a look. the storyline is somewhat dated, but if you can get past that and focus on the human drama between the two stars it can be quite engaging. I felt it was a good examination of how far we will go for love.
Julie Andrews' character walks a fine line. she stands by paul newman even when she believes he is betraying his country, but she makes it plain she feels what he is doing is wrong and tries in every way she can to convince him to do the right thing.
her loyalty and patience are ultimately rewarded. so to sum up, see it for the relationship between newman and andrews, and ignore somewhat the spy stuff. incidentally, the film does contain one of Hitch's most interesting and chilling murder scenes, enacted in complete silence with no background music.
