Review of Torn Curtain (1966) by Michael C — 04 Oct 2010
Flawed, but entertaining espionage thriller. Torn Curtain would have benefited from a little trimming- it's opening scenes are dull and plodding, and the Bus getaway sequence drags a little, lacking the immediacy of Hitchcock's best.
However, an earlier murder sequence is fantastic, and the film's wit seems to find it's groove as it progresses. Some people seem to have dismissed Julie Andrew's performance as wooden, but I found her the better of the leads, providing a jarring presence, ill-at-ease with her situation.
Not a classic, but overlooked.
