Review of Topaz (1969) by Stephen C — 23 Feb 2009
Flat ,confusing and frankly rather Boring late Hitchcock film.
The basic problem here is the story one moment we are in Cuba the next in France with loads of new characters which throw the viewer off track.
Hitchcock does try and inject some old magic into the film including a wondeful overhead shot of a shooting ,but the film feels lumpen and lacking anyform ,its no wonder Hitch struggled to end the film as like the viewer he must have been bored out his skull by the end, a poor film.
