Review of Top Secret! (1984) by Westleigh Q — 28 Apr 2009

Of all the comedies made by ZAZ, this is better than Mafia!, but not as good as the other movies. It's on the same level as Scary Movie 3 and 4. You can pretty much tell where the jokes are going. It's good for a laugh, but there's too many jokes that fall flat.

This is like ZAZ trying to make a ZAZ comedy. The biggest problem is that while Airplane! had a plot, Top Secret! doesn't. It's just a bunch of gags. The biggest problem may be that several of the jokes were funny in 1984, but not in 2009.

When the movie observed a renaissance in the early 90's, the jokes seemed old. I will say the movie makes good use of sight gags, but it's a little too much.
