Review of Top Hat (1935) by Ben W — 05 Oct 2007
This is a pretty good example of why I dont like musicals on the whole. yes, they are entertaining dancers but their vocalizing is negligible at best, and worst of all is that the entire plot of the movie is absolutely nothing more than an excuse for the dancing! irving berlin wrote some good music for the film but theres no way that it could be saved.
aside from that, fred astaire has never really impressed me. why cant we have more my fair ladys? with spectacular music that actually serves some purpose in the narrative. and on a personal level....
.dancing has just never been that appealing to me in the first place.
