Review of Top Hat (1935) by Joe L — 13 Dec 2008
Unlike most of the other musicals I've seen this actually had a plot! An enjoyable one too! The dancing wasn't bad too! Memorables: Astaire's dancing "No Strings" waking the sleeping beauty Rogers in the hotel room below; Astaire mowing down the chorus in "Top Hat"; his slick on-stage solo in dimmed lights; Roger's "I hate men!" rant scene opening.
Very enjoyable, and the comedy was charming, not overdone at all! Rogers' hairy dress was an off-putter, but for Astaire, it's hard to go wrong with a tux, top hat, and cane.
