Review of Top Hat (1935) by Amanda C — 12 Mar 2011
You couldn't ask for anything more from a musical. The music is fantastic, the dancing superb and the performances charming. Astaire and Rogers play off of each other beautifully cementing their place as one of the great couple of film history.
The Cheek to Cheek number is simple sublime, elegant and pure class. Astaire is brilliant in his solo numbers as always. The supporting cast is phenomenal as well, providing a wonderfully entertaining wit.
Top Hat is pure fluff, but it doesn't come any sweeter.
