Review of Top Five (2014) by Jdranoff — 07 Jun 2015
Of course this is a Woody Allen movie made by Chris Rock. What's great is that Woody hasn't made a Woody Allen movie this good in a decade. Here, Rock opens up honestly about a number of issues of particular importance to comedians, African American members of the entertainment industry, and the exploitative nature of reality TV. Some will love this just to see Jerry Seinfeld "make it rain" or Adam Sandler take a cheap shot by the main character's fiancee, but the strength of this film is in its comedic sadness.
By the way: (1) Chuck D, (2) Beastie Boys, (3) De La Soul, (4) Tribe Called Quest, (5) Grandmaster Flash.
