Review of Tootsie (1982) by Gustavmarkovic31 . — 11 Sep 2012
A hilarious comedy starring Dustin Hoffman and Academy Award winner Jessica Lange in this cross-dresing comedy which puts movies such as Connie and Carla to shame.
Dustin Hoffman is especially good as the actor starved of a job because he is too picky, dresses up as a woman to prove to his agent that he can get a job in a flavour-of-the-moment TV medical drama show, and after she wins the role, changes the whole show's meaning. He improvises when the script calls for lip-locking with the other men, and soon is the face behind the independent woman campaign.
Mixing good comedy with light drama, the filmmakers have managed to create a great 80's movie that isn't recked by the crappy music or belittled by bad actors. Teri Garr and Bill Murray are great in their supportive roles too.
And Dustin's character's revelation on live television that he is in fact a man is one of film's greatest moments. Recommended greatly.
