Review of Toni Erdmann (2016) by Ursula H — 17 Sep 2016
In spite of the glowing critical reviews, a far-fetched, overly long, and only occasionally funny satire of corporate life. The protagonist, a successful business woman, of course has to be cold, lonely and unfulfilled, while her meddling and stalking father is portrayed as endearing as he attempts to sabotage her career with sophisticated devices such as whoopie cushions, false teeth and obvious wigs.
The social critique fizzles and collapes as the daugher, after almost three hours of forced satire, simply relocates to another consulting fim in Singapore. Social and psychoological change, exit right.
