Review of Toni Erdmann (2016) by Art S — 16 Mar 2018
Toni Erdmann is a 2016 German-Austrian comedy-drama film directed by Maren Ade.
While I could appreciate the basic premise of the story, about a father who is trying to make his daughter be less stressed and find a more positive work-life balance, this film was simply far too long. There were numerous scenes of people being introduced at functions etc, which became tedious. Other scenes which showed promise seemed to fizzle away, thus losing impact. Although there was an interesting twist part way through and a touching ending, it wasn't enough for me.
