Review of Tomb Raider (2018) by Jess_Hill — 16 Mar 2018
A film lacking charm, finesse, and a sense of fun, this is a thoroughly uninspired devolution of an iconic character rendered into stagnant mediocrity. The cinematography is laboured, the storyline utterly predictable, with lacklustre set design and dialogue that can only be described as sufficient, there is little to recommend what should have at least been a thrilling, if unsophisticated, adventure.
Vikander is well cast, and her performance is solid, but this is a reboot that needed at least some moments of joyful violence, viciousness and flair, but ends up being a dour nothingness of disappointment.
