Review of Tomb Raider (2018) by Mark%20 H — 18 Mar 2018
This is a much grittier and realistic portrayal of the Tomb Raider franchise. No campy hero poses or expressions, and the first scene shows Lara getting owned in a boxing match. I found myself enjoying it as a pure action/drama piece, and forgetting it was even based on a video game.
My only issue is that I just can get behind Alicia Vikander being Lara Croft for purely superficial reasons. I don't think she has the right look, and I'm not talking about her cup size. Lara is supposed to be stunningly beautiful, and Alicia just seems kind of "dopey" looking and short.
I much would've preferred Keira Knightley, or someone who can hold an elegant beauty regardless of camera angle. Sorry to sound cruel, but as someone who was playing Tomb Raider back in the late 90s, I remember when Rhona Mitra was the first Tomb Raider live action model, and hoped to see someone of that caliber.
