Review of Tokyo Sonata (2008) by Scott G — 07 Oct 2009
The father loses his job, and subsequently his integrity and authority as he lives a lie. Dressed in his formal office attire, he joins the queue with the homeless destitutes and collects free lunches in a park each day.
He meets a friend who shares a similar plight but who continues to live in denial. He witnesses how his friend' s efforts in keeping up appearances led him down the path of suicide. Eventually he is allowed to redeem himself just a little when he returns the stash of cash found in the toilet.
Realistic, subtle and absurdly funny.
