Review of Tokyo Sonata (2008) by Paul W — 13 Jul 2012
The first two thirds is a beautifully observed and stunningly acted portrayal of a family, and indeed Japan, falling apart in a post-bubble implosion of redundancy and youth emigration. The screenplay trips up over itself in the final act with a series of improbable coincidences for each character, but the acting remains strong to the end.
