Review of Tokyo Sonata (2008) by Valeria P — 24 Jun 2010
This was a very uneven movie. My interest in the characters and the plot surged as the director and the actors focused on the daily routines of the family and the cracks that slowly become apparent as we get to know the main players.
My attention receded when the movie took a turn towards the absurd and unlikely in the last 30 minutes, including the change of heart of the eldest son, the melodramatic breakdown of the mother, and the Forrest Gump moment of the father.
However, the last 5 minutes saved the movie from disaster for me and made it worthwile.
