Review of Tokyo Sonata (2008) by Charles T — 13 Nov 2010
Don't watch this movie while you are sick or depressed. Solid drama, some humor but with some out of place comedy. (Parts between robber and wife I'm looking at you!) I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this, but I don't think the kid is a good piano player.
His playing was too fast, by the numbers, with absolutely no heart. And so much of the ending moment rides on that being full of emotion. But this film is an honest look at the struggles of a family with relationships, financial stability, and crushed or yet unfulfilled dreams.
I recommend watching it.
