The real problem here is the editing and cinematography. Cheap, creative gore films are great but so much of the visuals in this seem to try and cut around the tacky effects. We know it's B-grade, don't try to hide it.
Show it in it's full glory. The actual universe is very fun and there's some fantastic creature creations but the film doesn't seem to really embrace B-grade and falls far short of being more.
