Review of Tokyo Gore Police (2008) by Sven S — 25 Jan 2009

I never thought I'd say this, but I've actually found a movie bloodier than "Dead Alive." But I'm getting ahead of myself. Chances are, if you're even looking at a movie with a title like "Tokyo Gore Police," you fall into a certain kind of crowd. And being a part of this crowd, you know what you want out of a film like this; "Tokyo Gore Police" delivers on pretty much every level.

So much money spent on fake blood, that the rest of the special effects couldn't look convincing to save someone's life? Check. A laughably ludicrous plot, filled with ridiculous dialog and pseudoscience? Check. Characters that get introduced without any explanation, and are then summarily dispatched/forgotten? Check. Action scenes that leave you wondering just what the director was high on, and why he wasn't sharing? Double check. And to top it all off, there's the literal -promise- of a sequel at the end.

That's not to say that "Tokyo Gore Police" is without its faults. It feels a bit long, and there are occasional pacing problems. But by and large, this film is a fun, insane ride that any gore hound should absolutely ADORE. So if this sounds up your alley, grab a beer or two, and maybe some like-minded friends, and enjoy!
