Review of Tokyo Gore Police (2008) by Jason D — 25 Jan 2009
Tokyo Gore Police is about a futuristic police force built on being privatized in hopes of laying down more harsh laws on the criminals of the world, particularly a new breed known as Engineers who are able to manipulate their bodies after being injured and become even more lethal.
The top engineer hunter is played by Eihi Shiina (the very scary bitch in Audition) who lives a pretty depressing life consisting of cutting herself up and moaning her murdered father. Soon, it becomes apparent that a smarter, more dangerous Engineer is roaming the streets, viciously killing people or turning them into Engineers.
This movie lives up to its name very well and delivers insane amounts of gore, blood, and flying body parts. The gore definitely is up there with the likes of other blood-splattered films including Dead Alive and Machine Girl (the latter of which contains many of the same film crew).
There's also quite the barrage of cool visual and prosthetic effects that range all over the place. This film is completely unpredictable and stylish, though not taking itself too seriously. The story is even an interesting take on elements that have become a bit hackneyed nowadays.
This movie is definitely not for the squeamish, but I urge all true horror fans to watch it!
