Review of Tokyo Gore Police (2008) by Luke H — 03 May 2011
I put this film on to watch with dinner, and from now on I will always read film titles more clearly. Not that it put me off, as I have a seemingly unflinching stomach, but the word gore is very understated.
I don't fully know what to make of this film, but it's definitely one of the most truly bizarre, ultraviolent, totally fucked up films I've ever seen. Unlike many horror films, if that is even what it is, it has an interesting narrative, even though it's a little confusing at times.
Usually I hate gore, because it's needless, fetishist violence for the sake of it. But I actually enjoyed TGP for the sheer imagination involved in it. I could probably have given it a higher rating were it not for it seeming much longer than it actually is, and with some scenes that were drawn out and ridiculous, even by the standards of gore-fests.
That said, it's definitely one to watch, even if it is just once.
