Review of To the Wonder (2013) by Craig G — 26 Apr 2013
Hated it. Hated hated hated hated it. The story is basically a French girl who loves to twirl around falling in love with an American guy who has an unhealthy obsession with scarves and does not know what facial expressions are.
Then he leaves her for an American girl who hates her love life and expects expressionless-guy to make it all better? The movie itself is beautiful - Terrence Malick has a true gift for beautiful visuals - but the visuals are just sweeping shots of nature.
Nothing happens in them. In fact, the visuals represent what the movie is: nothing. It is a visual experience with as little story as possible. That is not a cinematic vision. That is just lust.
