Review of To Save a Life (2009) by Peter R — 03 Dec 2009
I took a group of 20 year old guys to see "To Save A Life" at an advanced screening. We all were skeptical going in but by the end each one of us had teared up at some point during the movie (yes, this movie made 20 year old men cry!) and were all deeply impressed with the power of this film.
It is an excellent depiction of High School life (I am a youth pastor), and carries an excellent message. More than that, it is a superbly acted and perfectly executed movie. Other "Christian" movies of late ("Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof") have, in my opinion, been great stories with mediocre acting. This movie contains both a great story with excellent character development and very convincing performances from the cast.
The story covers everything from teen suicide and depression, drinking and partying, teen pregnancy, divorce and the role of faith in one's life. These themes required convincing performances, and To Save A Life pulled it off. This movie will make you think about how you confront difficult situations in your life, and will make youth see the need to break social barriers and befriend those who are labeled as the outcast.
