Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Nick D — 03 Aug 2012
Allen periodically writes those slight New Yorker one-pagers called "Cries and Whispers", generally a silly idea stretched to absurdity. Only it's a page long. Perfect for the john. This hot mess of a movie has three or four such ideas, all lame as can be, but they are stretched into an interminable jumble that involves very attractive actors who are willing to read bad lines for the privilege of working with Allen.
If not for the scenery, I would have walked out, and I'm a fan. I can honestly say, I never laughed once: a smile here and there, but this is not comedy, it's torture.
