Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Oliver G — 17 Oct 2012
This is Woody Allen's worst film in a long time. Absolute dire stories and terrible acting from everyone, except Judy Davis. The cinematography and editing on this film was horrible, it just seems like every part of this film was rushed. Apart from the opening titles it didn't feel like a Woody Allen movie.
However there is some justification...
Distributors from Rome offered to finance the film for Woody, as long as it was filmed in Rome, which he accepted due to his desire to both work in Rome and "an opportunity to get the money to work quickly and from a single source".
So it seems he was rushed into writing a film about Rome.
Also I think from now on Woody needs to stop acting and just strictly concentrate on Writing and Directing. He was clearly to involved in the acting side, then the much more important writing and directing.
Overall, Woody's heart was just not in this film, and it really is his worst since "Celebrity" in 1998.
1 out 5 stars.
