Review of To Return (1982) by Emily Z — 01 Oct 2008
The movie was good not great. The characters are portrayed strongly, but that's not quite enough to overcome the weakness of the story. The first third was enjoyable but quickly the tone changed from quirky to dull and melodramatic.
I think the turning point is Penelope Cruz' singing. I think that scene took itself to seriously. The not-so-subtle hints make you want to eat your own eyes out. I found myself wanting to scream *spoiler alert* "WE GET IT! YOU WERE MOLESTED! GET ON WITH IT!".
