Review of To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) by Steven H — 01 Jul 2007
Dirty, gritty, thrilling, violent, fatalistic... "To Live and Die in L.A." brought Friedkin back to the spotlights deservedly. The initial bad guy vs. good guy comparison slowly fades away, the differences blur and you'll end up knowing that there are various shades of grey when it comes to "justice".
I doubt such a movie would be made today. It's a bit dated (cars, music, picture quality) but still manages to capture one's attention, especially the precisely prepared, now famous chase sequence.
A true man's movie.
