Review of To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) by Noah A — 02 Oct 2007
Unbalanced. The overarching point seemed simplistic and without the depth is was perported to have (counterfeit money=counterfeit lives).
However, performances were more or less excellent. Petersen as Chance was somewhat unbalanced, at times excellent and other times unrealistic. This was probably due in part to direction.
Mann does not, however, shy away from tricky subjects. Nudity, realistic violence, the death of a main character. These subjects scare Hollywood and bravo to Friedkin for refusing to exile them from his film over producers fears.
