If I see someone else describe this as dated I'll go crazy. It was 1985. Do you see? And good music is good music, and the synth score fits a movie about counterfeiting like a fuckin' glove. Petersen was in two classics in the 80's, and this one noses Manhunter because it's such a ballsy, in-your-face picture, in that unmistakable Friedkin way.
