Review of To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) by Dennis B — 13 Apr 2009
I'm reviewing this as a favor to a good friend of mine, O.G. Frank. I'm glad I watched it though. This isn't a typical buddy cop movie. It's filled with a bunch of imperfect characters and dishonest, selfish people, including the main character.
It's really hard to like anyone in this movie but I think that's the point. The main character is really just a guy who makes lot's of bad decisions and has really bad luck. His heart seems to be in the right place but doesn't seem to care about anyone else.
The chase scenes are shot well including the on foot chases. If anyone has scene the movie Ronin, I think its car chases are playing homage to this movie. Some of the dialogue is pretty funny. "If you want bread, then go fuck a baker.
" Pretty classic. Willem Dafoe was a pretty good villain and not too over the top like 90% of movies out there. He's just another guy and takes beatings here and there. I'm actually curious to see what other people think of this and would like feedback if anyone gets to watch it.
