Review of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) by Jareth S — 14 Nov 2010
The film opens with a great title sequence and generally has very good cinematography, but promptly goes downhill form there. Unfortunately, the rest of it involves whiny brat kids and a good-hearted white man doing a really bad job as a lawyer who clearly has no idea how to defend a black man wrongly accused of rape.
But, hey, he gave it the 'old college try' right? SO let's have all the thankful black people revere him as he leaves the courtroom. I really hope the novel was a lot better than this overrated mediocrity.
I pretty much agree with Ebert's review of the film and was happy to find at least one critical voice of sanity amongst a sea of undeserved praise. Gregory Peck was in any number of good films, but this wasn't one of them.
