Review of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) by Hung-Ya L — 22 Mar 2015
It took me about a week to finish Harper Lee's autobiographical novel then I went to see the movie straight away. As I was reading the book, every image and sequence vividly popped up in my head as my imagination went wild. I imagined what the Finches would be like, especially the reserved and humble Atticus. it turns out that Gregory Peck is almost that perfect father figure fit my imagination. You have to love Gregory Peck (again) after watching To Kill a Mockingbird.
Harper Lee brought the Finches into my life and it could be one of the best things happening to me. The story reminds me of Inherit the Wind as well as The Crucible. A man chose to stand up alone while everyone else was sitting down. He did not bow down or kneel. What Atticus represents is simply conscience, a clear and pure conscience.
The novel is very detailed about everyone and everything in Maycomb. The movie draws the very essence of the book and makes a perfect adaptation.
