Review of To Have and Have Not (1945) by Paul C — 14 Jan 2009
At first glance it appears to be cashing in on the cachet of the previous year's masterpiece 'Casablanca' but is not as finely crafted. It lacks the supporting cast or storyline of Casablance, and the Hoagey Carmichael musical numbers aren't up to much - but it's trump card is the on-screen chemistry between Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall (in her feature film debut) - which as we all know continued off-screen into marriage.
