Review of To Have and Have Not (1945) by Gregg T — 24 Jan 2010
It bares similarities to the superior Casablanca, but the pairing of Bogart and Bacall was one of the best ideas any studio ever came up with and they make the film. It is their chemistry, their spitfire dialogue, their humor that makes the film.
While Casablanca is romantic, To Have and Have Not is sexy and every single shot from Hawks asserts this feeling as the 19 year old Bacall commands every single scene she's in.
