Review of To Have and Have Not (1945) by Mikael K — 29 Apr 2010
Howard Hawks directed from a script adapted from Ernest Hemingway's novel by Jules Furthman and William Faulkner. The result is a very Casablanca-like story filled with adventure and love, all shadowed and influenced by the events of WWII.
Humphrey Bogard was always reliable to give a good performance, and the magnificent Lauren Bacall is a perfect femme fatale here. No wonder this was her big break through. All in all an enjoyable, old fashioned little story with a good cast.
