A reminder that Gus van Sant also directed the abysmal Psycho remake. This should have been a brilliant black satire on the hollowness of fame. Unfortunately it's not. Everyone involved is operating below par, from the screenwriter Buck Henry to the star Nicole Kidman.
Scorsese would have delivered a coruscating shocker, not this vapid soap opera.
