Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Ricardo O — 22 Feb 2010
To Catch a Thief may be one of Hitchcock's "lesser" films but it is still better than most films. It is a very entertaining whodunit that works because of the dialogue, the [great, oscar winning,] cinematography, the wonderful costumes by Edith Head and the way all the actors interact with each other. it doesn't have as much suspense as most of Hitch's other films but definitely has as much mystery to it and is romantic film. Grace Kelly in her third film for the filmmaker is just stunning to look at as usual. It also marks Cary Grant's third time working with the director, his previous films with him being Suspicion and Notorious and the film that made him want to come out of retirement, he would make his fourth and final starring role in one of Hitchcock's film in North By Northwest in 1959.
As I said before it isn't one of Alfred Hitchcock's top 10 definitive films but if you are a fan of the filmmaker there is no reason to miss out on this highly entertaining romantic mystery thriller by the master of suspense. 8/10.
