Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Jake G — 21 Oct 2009
TO CATCH A THIEF gets my vote for Hitchcock's most stylish caper film, a winning combination of wit and deceit. Cary Grant as a dapper ex-burglar is funny and believable, and Grace Kelly earns her distinction as one of cinema's sexiest ladies.
Although not one of Hitch's most re-watchable films, there are several key scenes that make it a good film. For one, the fireworks scene lends tension and passion to the movie, and the car chase is one of my favorites in Hitchcock's films.
And the red herrings in the masquerade ball work well, a perfect example of his signature style.
