Review of To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018) by Lily L — 21 Aug 2018
I am a Korean American woman and I was offended by Jenny Han's attempt to show the world what a Korean American family is supposed to be, which is not Asian. Not just me, but the Korean American community.
It is in all the forums how this film insults Asian Americans. In an interview, Jenny Han said she wants to show Lara Jean as not Asian so she told the director to take out anything that "screams of Korean" because she wants to portray Lara Jean as "NORMAL".
What? As if anything Asian is NOT NORMAL? This is racist coming from a whitewashed-Korean-in-name-and-looks Janny Han. She has wrongfully and inaccurately been marketing how this film is a big screen production by Netflix when Netflix is only the distributor.
AwesomenessTV and Overbrook produced it, and now AwesomenessTV has gone bankrupt.
