Review of To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018) by Mymom — 17 Aug 2018
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try if they are into classic coming of age romantic movies, (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its overdone romantic storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
That being said this classic story line is done about as well as I could have been. The biggest weakness to this film has to be how rushed it felt, which made it imposable to feel attached to any characters outside of the two main ones.
A couple things I found odd in the film. first, was how it copies the cinematography of Wes Anderson. Many scenes had the classic Wes Anderson symmetric background with the actor in the center of the shot.
I would think was just a coincidence, but it happens so regularly throughout the film that it had to be intentionally trying to imitate Wes Anderson. second, the storyline feels like a copycat, running scarily close to the 1987 film Can’t buy me love.
Overall, I enjoyed watching the film, mainly because I love the genre but in no way did it grow or revolutionize anything in the genre (other than the acting), ultimately making it an average film.
