Review of TMNT (2007) by Lancee. — 24 Mar 2007
For those more "sophisticated" fans: I'll be the first to admit that this wasn't as great as the older, live-action TMNT movies from the 90's, but it's not as bad as you think.
If you're a fan of the old movies and cartoon, and you haven't seen this new one yet because of some fear that it won't live up to the old, then do yourself a favor and disregard all the critics' reviews and just go see the movie.
That's the ONLY way you can says if it's good or bad. -I thought the movie was going to suck and worried about it, but I was surprised that it turned out a lot better than I thought it would.
There IS a story here, though it's not as strong as the older ones. There's a nice family dynamic presented and at least the writers tried something new, since the story takes place after all the previous movies.
The characters are well-developed (like the older movies, Raph.'s the most believeable of the four brothers), and there are some deeper themes here. The music is pretty good and emphasizes the action well, and the cgi was great (the fight scenes were very well done).
It's actually quite funny and even though the ending is pretty predictable, the rest of the story is NOT. The four turtles' voices are perfect and most of the other characters as well, but Splinter sounds comical (not in the good way).
-So to sum up, I give this movie a 10 for style, an 8 for jokes, and a 2 for stealth (those who've seen the movie know what I'm talking about).
