Review of Titus (1999) by Nicole F — 11 Jun 2007
I guess that I'm a little bias because I love Shakespeare and this play but even so this is a beautiful film. It is, first and foremost, visually stunning and I am constatly impressed with the costme design and the set design.
There is just always something cool to look at and they insert so many tiny things that you really have to look for or know something about to understnd (SPQR news) I just like when that much effort is put into little details.
I also like how they managed to mix the modern with the ancient and create a sort of fantasy land because the Rome presenteed in the play is a bit of a fantasy anyway. I don't, however, like the random artsy cutaways to bizarre imagery, I think that it just breaks up the narrative and is a bit too much.
I also just really didn't like the actress that played Tamora, I felt that she was having a problem with Shakesperian dialogue. But again, one of my favortie movies.
