Review of Titus (1999) by Knut N — 17 Oct 2007
The best of Taymor's films and also her most raw, Titus flirts with greatness but eventually settles for mediocrity. All the actors are strong, and the visuals inspired. The music is great, as is the setting, but while the Bard crafts a fine tale of revenge and evil married with the inner twistings of one's soul, Taymor never seems to find much beyond the superficial, MTV-Generation look.
One final note; Taymor, you have an editor for a reason. Just because you shot it doesn' mean it needs to be in the film.
