Review of Titus (1999) by Kenneth L — 11 Dec 2008
Astoundingly awesome and crazy. The sets are some of the best I can think of outside of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The costumes are great, and cheerfully anachronistic, as is most of the movie. Although the movie uses tons of crazy imagery, I don't think any of the dialogue was made up; I am pretty sure every line was straight Shakespeare.
All of the acting is great, especially Hopkins as Titus and Lennix as Aaron. Julie Taymor's direction is wildly surreal at parts. For such a crazy film, I think it fits Shakespeare's intent beautifully.
