One of the most notable and successful films of all time, James Cameron's melodrama, Titanic, is often regarded as a must-see for all film lovers. Many commend the film on its visual pleasure, to which they are correct; Titanic boasts stunning eye candy for the viewers.

As for the rest of the film... it seems to be grossly overlooked in favour of the visual glamour. The story sets a romance in the midst of the ill-fated Titanic voyage of 1912. Though simple, the story fills its three hour run-time without making it seem too long or too boring.

The action is constant and the pace fleeting, keeping eyes gripped to the screen throughout. However, the film's leading stars in Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are disappointing, their forced chemistry accompanying their wooden acting.

The supporting cast, among them Billy Zane and Victor Garber, have mixed success, with some shining, but many falling disappointingly flat. Though it may never reach the point of boring, the film is still overlong and even the melodrama and action can hide the major cutting of sections desperately needed.

Overall, whilst Titanic shall surely live on forever as a cinematic classic, the film, if you take away its large fan base, can only be described as good... but not great.
