It is very compelling and further reaching than expected. I suppose art purists may be up in arms about it, purveying the sentiment that it's somehow cheapening these perceived masterpieces, but those people would be missing the point.
The movie is about seeking the truth and how science and technology don't have to be considered to be separate from art. If anything, I think the conclusion creates a new sense of respect for Vermeer and what he was able to accomplish.
