Review of TiMER (2009) by Ashley H — 23 Nov 2010
I'm shocked that this movie received largely lukewarm or poor ratings. I was surprised and pleased by the eloquence of this movie, and the interesting premise is a conversation piece for all couples.
The basic premise is that a company (TiMER) has developed a clock-like device that can be implanted in your wrist. When your soul mate has one implanted, both yours and theirs begins to countdown to the day you meet. (Of course, if one of the pair never gets a TiMER, they never start to tick down). When you and your soul mate finally meet, they DING. Takes all the guess work out of love.
The idea is interesting, and it sets up the viewer for what seems like a stationary and pretty predictable plot. Surprisingly, it deviates pretty sharply from the typical romantic comedy plot, and has a couple of twists that I didn't see coming. Even better, the actors appear to have a true and intense on-screen chemistry, which makes the movie that much more enjoyable. No stupid body gags in this movie, it's a lighthearted comedy with some pretty deep undertones. It'll make you think about love, and what you'd do if there really was a TiMER.
