Review of Time of the Gypsies (1988) by Mirko B — 13 Sep 2010
"Dom za vesanje" is pure poetry- the scene with the flying veil is completely surrealist. Kusturica is one of Yugoslavia's greatest film talents and without a doubt the most internationally acclaimed.
this is a story about the life of Perhan, a young gypsy and his straying into criminal despite his gift. Of all the films dealing with the ways and traditions of the Gypsies, this is the best one. It portrays the true spirit of the Balkans in such a surreal, beautiful way.
